Can any of my readers tell me what's wrong with the following article found on a major internet site?

The question was asked on a forum recently, I have heard that if a child eats a certain number of hot dogs per week that the probability of a brain tumor is tremendous. Is this correct?

The answer that was given by Shereen Jegtvig, of About.com: No, a child will not be at a greater risk of forming brain tumors if he eats too many hot dogs. However, moms-to-be may want to cut hot dogs and other processed meats such as bologna, sausage, pepperoni and other packaged luncheon meats out of their diets for that reason. She further states: "Your question probably stems from research that looked for a possible correlation between the consumption of processed meats by pregnant women and the occurrence of brain tumors in their children. Laboratory research performed on lab animals showed that substances formed from sodium nitrites would cause neurological tumors in the offspring of female animals that were fed the nitrates. These findings spurred researches to study human populations and they found that women who ate more processed meats had children who were more likely to develop brain tumors."

the article goes on to state: "Later research also found that women who ate diets high in processed meats were also more likely to have babies who weighed less than they should.
While there is a correlation between mothers-to-be and childhood brain tumors, that same risk doesn't extend to the children when they eat hot dogs. Actually, while rates of childhood brain cancer went up in the 1970s through the 1990s, the amount of nitrites used in processed meats actually went down.
Hot dogs, franks, wieners or whatever you wish to call them are certainly not healthy foods for children or adults to eat even if they don't cause brain tumors in people who eat them. Like other processed meats, they are high in calories and saturated fats. Plus they contain those nitrites, which may combine with other substances to form N-Nitroso compounds in the body.
These compounds may be part of the reason why eating processed meats has been associated with a higher risk of cancer, not just brain cancer in children of women who eat processed meats, but also for colorectal cancer in adults.
Another reason why hot dogs are unhealthy may be due to the overall diet of a typical hot dog eater. People who eat high fat diets including red and processed meats are more likely to be overweight or obese, plus that hot dog may be taking the place of a much more nutritious fruit or vegetable. Hot dogs are also prone to carry the bacteria called listeria that causes foodborne illness.

Hot dogs, like all processed meats, should be eaten only rarely. While the occasional hot dog at a baseball game may not ruin your health, frequent consumption of hot dogs and other processed meats cannot be part of a healthy diet."

I refer my readers first to this entry concerning Sodium Nitrite so that you may better understand its composition and the studies having been done upon it. And some of the dangers it poses with consumption. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_nitrite

to quote from wiki: "Various dangers of using this as a food additive have been suggested and researched by scientists. A principal concern is the formation of carcinogenic N-nitrosamines by the reaction of sodium nitrite with amino acids in the presence of heat in an acidic environment. Sodium nitrite has also been linked to triggering migraines. http://www.fda.gov/FDAC/features/1998/398_pain.html

Recent studies have found a link between high processed meat consumption and colon cancer, possibly due to preservatives such as sodium nitrite.

Recent studies have also found a link between frequent ingestion of meats cured with nitrites and the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease form of lung disease."

I would also like to point out that Sodium Nitrite is on the following federal regulatory program lists:

Hazardous Substances (Superfund)

Registered Pesticides (Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act)

Toxic Release Inventory Chemicals

So what is that Ms. Jegtvig said that I find wrong? I refer to the following quote from her article: While there is a correlation between mothers-to-be and childhood brain tumors, that same risk doesn't extend to the children when they eat hot dogs.<

Medical science is just now confirming what healthy eating practioners have known for years. In a ground breaking new study, Dr. Dean Ornish, president and founder of the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute, as well as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, published a preliminary report today detailing the findings of a study involving men with low grade prostrate cancer. The results were astounding in that they suggests that stringent dietary changes, getting more exercise and practicing stress reduction can change the expression of hundreds of genes. Put simply, these changes turned off the genes that promote cancer development.

To see a video interview with Dr. Ornish click here.

Dr. Ornish has been leading the way in healthy eating and he and his team earlier proved that a lifestyle regimen featuring meditation, a low-fat vegetarian diet, smoking cessation, and regular exercise could not only stop the progression of Coronary Artery Disease, but could actually reverse it.

To learn more about this important healthy living advocate and pioneering researcher click here.

The Medicinal and Environmental dangers of Mercury

What is this mystery metal? And why should you be more knowlegdable about its affects on you and your family? "Mercury is used in thermometers, barometers, manometers, sphygmomanometers, float valves, and other scientific apparatus, though concerns about the element's toxicity have led to mercury thermometers and sphygmomanometers being largely phased out in clinical environments in favour of alcohol-filled, digital, or thermistor-based instruments. It remains in use in a number of other ways in scientific and scientific research applications, and in amalgam material for dental restoration."2

Historical uses: preserving wood, developing daguerreotypes, silvering mirrors, anti-fouling paints (discontinued in 1990), herbicides (discontinued in 1995), handheld maze games, cleaning, and road levelling devices in cars. Mercury compounds have been used in antiseptics, laxatives, antidepressants, and in antisyphilitics. It was also allegedly used by allied spies to sabotage German planes. A mercury paste was applied to bare aluminium, causing the metal to rapidly corrode. This would cause mysterious structural failures.2 Its all around us, so be knowledgable and do a little research before you buy items or use medicines.

Some of the ailments that Mercury is know to cause are Insanity, liver failure, general poison, brain death, brain stem erosion. Many acute health effects are associated with exposure to high levels of elemental mercury vapor. Respiratory symptoms may predominate (cough, sore throat, shortness of breath). Gastrointestinal effects are frequent in the initial set of symptoms (metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain) as are CNS effects such as headache, weakness, and visual disturbances. Several days after the initial exposure, symptoms are more similar to those that develop following inorganic mercury poisoning, including ptyalism (heavy salivation), enteritis, and renal damage; there can also be chronic CNS effects, which develop as a result of the ability of absorbed elemental mercury to cross the blood-brain barrier.3

The major route of exposure to elemental mercury is inhalation of mercury vapor. Symptoms of acute toxicity following high-level exposure to mercury vapor occur within hours of the exposure.

Respiratory symptoms include corrosive bronchitis with fever chills and dyspnea, which can progress to pulmonary edema or fibrosis. Abdominal cramps, diarrhea, renal dysfunction, visual disturbances, and central nervous system damage leading to neuropsychiatric disturbances and intention tremors may also occur.

Mercury can cross the blood-brain and placental barriers. It is also excreted in breast milk. Children may be at increased risk for pulmonary toxicity and are more likely to develop respiratory failure.

Of particular concern to you our readers should be two of the more controversial exposures to mercury. Those being Dental Amalgams and Thiomersal, (called Thimerosal in the United States), an organic compound used as a preservative in vaccines. We will then discuss another sham perpetrated upon the general public by alternative medicine practioners, that being the "cure" for Mercury poisoning, "Natural" or "Organic" Chelation therapy.

Thiomersal and Autism: Resources show that when mercury was first used back in 1930s, the first case of autism was also recorded. There is a lot of medical research mumbo jumbo that the FDA claimed to have tested numerous cases and shown that there is no link betwween the two. But with clever statistical manipulation of data they can make anyone believe anything. The FDA says that there are such small amounts of mercury in vaccines that it will not harm infants or children alike. The problem is that there are two theories, one theory is the "we didn't know theory" and the other is the "oops theory" The FDA (in typical fashion of late) has to protect its assets by having everything ready so if there is a lawsuit, they will have the court protec

For those who like to drink cold water or beverage, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer . It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks - You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep.
Asonor Double Blind Study University State Hospital Copenhagen Denmark

Summary Report

THE EFFECT OF NASAL APPLICATION OF ASONOR® and POLYGLYCOSIDE 80 ON
SNORING AND SLEEP APNEA

A double blind controlled study and an acceptance study (the full report can be requested by contacting TannerMedico A/S)

by
Department of neurology
University State Hospital
Rigshospitalet
DK-2100 Copenhagen
Denmark

INTRODUCTION

Epidemiological studies have shown that snoring is very prevalent in the adult population. Snoring is more common among men and increases with age, until the age of 60-70. Snoring has been found to imply social and family welfare (difficulties in maintaining work, family problems, e.g. because of separate bed rooms, hypersomnia, sexual dysfunction).

Snoring has been found to be a risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disorders and complications, including high blood pressure, angina pectoris, myocardial and cerebral infarction.

Surgical treatment (UvuloPalatoPharyngoPlastic (UPPP), Mandibular advancement e.g.) are effective in some patients but are associated with operative and postoperative complications and risk for side effects. Nasal CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is very effective in reducing sleep apnea in patients suffering from severe sleep apnea, but most people suffering from simple snoring do not accept this treatment.

Non-surgical and non-CPAP interventions, e.g. position training, tongue or dental devices have been found to be able to reduce snoring in some patients but their use has been debated and disputed. Because most of the snorers does only have “simple snoring ” any simple treatment of
the snoring problem are of major interest.

SUBJECTS AND METHODS

Study population

The study population was selected from a large-scaled epidemiological study performed in 1986 in the Copenhagen area involving 3439 men, age 50-75. Of those 49.9% reported every night or nearly every night snoring according to the questionnaire. 550 were selected by the following criteria:

1. Age 50-65,
2. Every night snoring according to the questionnaire
3. Abnormal ENT-findings, acute nasal allergies, alcoholism, abuse of sleeping tablets, major cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and psychiatric diseases were exclusion criteria.

Controlled and stable cardiovascular diseases were accepted. Former cerebrovascular disorders were excluded.

All persons were invited by postal invitation. Of the 550 invitations 278 accepted entry into the study and were found to fulfil the inclusion criteria. This population was divided in 224 persons to the acceptance study and 54 persons to the controlled study.

All were invited to the hospital. A standardized questionnaire was given. All participants underwent a general physical examination and a otolaryngological examination. Blood pressure was measured on the left arm after at least 10 minutes at rest in sitting position. Weight and height were determined and body mass index (BMI) was calculated using Quetelets index (weight / height2).

All participants received written and oral information about the study. Written informed concensus was given by all participants. The study was accepted by the local ethical committee.

STUDY SUMMARY

Earlier small, open human and animal studies have indicated, that nasal application of Asonor® solution reduce snoring. In order to characterize the effect of Asonor® with and without polysorbate 80 (P-80), a long acting tissue-lubricating polyglycols, on snoring and sleep apnoea, two studies were performed:

1) a double blind controlled study with inclusion of 50 every-night snorers, and
2) an open acceptance study with inclusion of 218 every night snores.
218 male, self-reported every-night snorers, age 50-65, participated in an open, acceptance study with a daily use of 1.2 mg Asonor®. All participants were instructed to use Asonor® freely. After 6 months 67.9% were still using Asonor®. A significant improvement in self or bed-partner reported snoring, and a significant improvement in sleep quality, daytime tiredness and sleepiness were observed compared to baseline values (72%).

In the double blind controlled study, 50 every-night male snorers, age 50-65 were included. All were using a nasal application of 1.2 mg Asonor® with P-80 every night or a control prepation with Asonor®, but without P-80.

In the double blind controlled study, a significant improvement was found in self and bed partner reported snoring, tiredness, sleepiness and in sleep quality both in the control and in the test period compared to baseline values (72%).

No significant differences were found between the two gro

Troubles with Snoring - Couples Seek Separate Rooms

Couples Seek Separate Rooms

Published: April 24, 2007 at 12:52 PM

ST. LOUIS, April 24 (UPI) -- Troubles with snoring spouses are leading some couples to seek separate bedrooms, sparking a building trend around the United States.

The National Sleep Foundation says 53 percent of adults report relationship problems stemming from a partner's sleep disorder, CBS News said, and now a housing survey suggests more than 60 percent of custom homes will have two master bedrooms by 2015.

Dennis Hayden, who builds homes with dual master bedrooms in St. Louis, says the separate bedrooms are increasingly being used by married people looking to sleep separate from a snoring spouse.

"Not that they're not happily married," he said. "It's that it helps them actually survive their marriage. It gives the spouses somewhere to escape to if they're snoring."

However, experts say married couples sleeping in different rooms may have trouble convincing outsiders that it is not a sign of marital troubles.

"If the individuals and a couple are not in the same bed, people are immediately suspicious that the relationship has gone awry, that there's a problem," said John Elia, a health education professor at San Francisco State University.

© 2007 United Press International.
Global Research, February 2, 2008
Knowledge Driven Revolution.com - 2007-11-19

Information Operation Roadmap Part 3
The Pentagon's Information Operations Roadmap is blunt about the fact that an internet, with the potential for free speech, is in direct opposition to their goals. The internet needs to be dealt with as if it were an enemy "weapons system".
You can read the roadmap here: http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB177/info_ops_roadmap.pdf

The 2003 Pentagon document entitled the Information Operation Roadmap was released to the public after a Freedom of Information Request by the National Security Archive at George Washington University in 2006. A detailed explanation of the major thrust of this document and the significance of information operations or information warfare was described by me here. :
http://www.knowledgedrivenrevolution.com/Articles/200711/20071105_IOR_1_Thrust.htm

Computer Network Attack

From the Information Operation Roadmap:

"When implemented the recommendations of this report will effectively jumpstart a rapid improvement of CNA [Computer Network Attack] capability." - 7

"Enhanced IO [information operations] capabilities for the warfighter, including: ... A robust offensive suite of capabilities to include full-range electronic and computer network attack..." [emphasis mine] - 7
Would the Pentagon use its computer network attack capabilities on the Internet?

Fighting the Net

"We Must Fight the Net. DoD [Department of Defense] is building an information-centric force. Networks are increasingly the operational center of gravity, and the Department must be prepared to "fight the net." " [emphasis mine] - 6

"DoD's "Defense in Depth" strategy should operate on the premise that the Department will "fight the net" as it would a weapons system." [emphasis mine] - 13
It should come as no surprise that the Pentagon would aggressively attack the "information highway" in their attempt to achieve dominance in information warfare. Donald Rumsfeld's involvement in the Project for a New American Century sheds more light on the need and desire to control information.

PNAC Dominating Cyberspace

The Project for a New American Century (PNAC) was founded in 1997 with many members that later became the nucleus of the George W. Bush administration. The list includes: Jeb Bush, Dick Cheney, I. Lewis Libby, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz among many other powerful but less well know names. Their stated purpose was to use a hugely expanded U.S. military to project "American global leadership." In September of 2000, PNAC published a now infamous document entitled Rebuilding America's Defences. This document has a very similar theme as the Pentagon's Information Operations Roadmap which was signed by then Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

From Rebuilding America's Defenses:

"It is now commonly understood that information and other new technologies... are creating a dynamic that may threaten America's ability to exercise its dominant military power." [emphasis mine] - 4

"Control of space and cyberspace. Much as control of the high seas - and the protection of international commerce - defined global powers in the past, so will control of the new "international commons" be a key to world power in the future. An America incapable of protecting its interests or that of its allies in space or the "infosphere" will find it difficult to exert global political leadership." [emphasis mine] - 51

"Although it may take several decades for the process of transformation to unfold, in time, the art of warfare on air, land, and sea will be vastly different than it is today, and "combat" likely will take place in new dimensions: in space, "cyber-space," and perhaps the world of microbes." [emphasis mine] - 60

For more on Rebuilding America's Defences read this.: http://www.knowledgedrivenrevolution.com/Articles/200709/20070910_PNAC_Revisited_Iraq.htm

Internet 2

Part of the Information Operation Roadmap's plans for the internet are to "ensure the graceful degradation of the network rather than its collapse." (pg 45) This is presented in "defensive" terms, but presumably, it is as exclusively defensive as the Department of Defense.

As far as the Pentagon is concerned the internet is not all bad, after all, it was the Department of Defense through DARPA that gave us the internet in the first place. The internet is useful not only as a business tool but also is excellent for monitoring and tracking users, acclimatizing people to a virtual world, and developing detailed psyc

*NOTE: Inline with our commitment to our readers we have included this item because we have firsthand experience in its effectiveness. It is the only stop snoring product that we have found that has no interactions with other medications according to the studies conducted in Germany and Denmark. It is the only product that we have found that has documented clinicals from a recognized university.

You can purchase this fine product at the Asonor Store by clicking the Asonor Amazon ad on the home page.

Snoring
Snoring is a serious problem for many men and women. But it is a problem that can be resolved. Asonor is a new cure that fixes the causes of snoring in a straightforward manner. It is a plain and simple treatment, which relieves you of the inconvenience that snoring causes. Asonor has shown great improvement in people's Lifestyle due to this.

Why do we snore?
Snoring arises when breathing is obstructed. This can be caused by a cold or an anatomical irregularity in the nose or throat. However, the most common cause of snoring is, that the muscles in and around the throat relax too much when we are asleep. This means that the opening in the throat becomes narrow, and air has difficulty in passing.

As one requires the same amount of air to the lungs, the air intake speed increases. Pressure in the throat increases, and the uvula and soft palate begin to vibrate. The noise produced by these vibrations is called snoring. Therefore, snoring is a sign of troubled breathing during sleep.

The louder the snoring sound, the narrower the opening in the throat.

Is snoring common?
Yes! Snoring is a common phenomenon which has existed for as long as people have slept. Calculations concerning the frequency of snoring show, it is so common, that there is a snorer in nearly every second home. Men are more frequent snorers than women. This difference is equalized during the years.

Snoring can disturb a good nights sleep!

When you snore, your breathing becomes irregular. When sleeping this can cause a pause in breathing. These pauses can last up till 10 seconds and can be repeated many times during the night. You may not yourself notice these pauses but your sleep has been disturbed. This means that your body does not get the rest it needs. The result is that you are tired when you wake up, which is not good for your health.

Research shows that snorers have an increased risk of suffering from various illnesses such as high blood pressure, coronary and brain haemorrhage. Here is the solution to snoring! Asonor nose drops effectively remove the cause of snoring.

It is a plain and simple treatment, which relieves you of the inconvenience that snoring causes. An Asonor nose drop lubricates and softens the mucous membrane and lightly tightens the musculature in the throat. This means that breathing is not disturbed in any way, and that your mouth will not be as dry in the morning.

Are Asonor nose drops efficient?
Yes, Asonor is clinical proven from comprehensive clinical studies carried out of leading scientist and University Hospitals in London and Copenhagen. Asonor is the best and simplest product used on the market. You sleep better and wake up refreshed after a good night’s sleep. More than 80% of the persons that use Asonor have reported that they are less tired during the day.

How is Asonor used?
Asonor solution is used as nose drops each evening before bedtime. Bend the head backwards and pump 3 to 4 times of Asonor in each nostril, until you can feel the solution in your throat. In order to achieve the best results it is very important that the solution reaches and coats the mucous membrane of the throat.Asonor should be used every night.

Some additional information about snoring and snorers.

Snoring can kill your sex life.

Snoring is ruining the sex lives of one in four couples, a survey says. Twenty-five per cent sleep separately to avoid the racket, while half admit it affects their relationship.

Asonor nose drops is clinical proven .

Asonor is clinical proven from comprehensive clinical studies carried out of leading scientist and University Hospitals in London and Copenhagen. The result together with customer feedback showed that snoring was eliminated or considerably reduced on nearly 3 out of 4 persons.

International research shows that snorers have considerably lower quality of life.

Snoring may result in a decrease in quality of life in the form of cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, stress and premature death.

Woman, who snore, are twice as likely to develop cardiovascular diseases.

An American study managed b

What is a healthy diet? It's not about counting calories, measuring portions or cutting carbs. You won't find it on the lite menu at your favorite restaurant and you certainly won't find it at the local fast food joint. A healthy diet is all about what you eat rather than how much you eat.

If you've come to this site looking for the latest fad diet information, you are in for a big surprise. Losing weight, staying healthy and getting back into shape after many years of diet neglect is not about fads or eating in some radical new way for six to twelve weeks and then going back to the way you used to eat.
The best thing you can do to keep yourself healthy is to eat a healthy diet…all the time, not just when you want to lose weight. Eating healthy is a long-term lifestyle choice, something you are going to do for your entire lifetime.
But what is a healthy diet? Is it what we have been lead to believe – milk for strong bones and teeth, protein in the form of lean beef or chicken and maybe a “healthy” microwave dinner if we are “on the go.” Unfortunately this diet is what is identified as the Standard American Diet or the SAD.
And what's so wrong with the SAD?
Well, has it made us a healthier people? Are we better off as a nation because of it?

With all of the health studies, advanced health care, the war on cancer dating back to the 70’s, and the most advanced technology available on the planet we have to ask ourselves why do we still need to spend $1.3 trillion a year on health care in the United States. Why aren't we getting any healthier?

Other pertinent questions about your health beg for answers such as, why after more than 30 years since the “War On Cancer” was declared, do we still have an increasing cancer rate. Yes, we have many more people surviving, cancer but the rate at which people are getting cancer is increasing. We have come a long way in taking care of sick people, but we haven't made any progress as a nation in preventing those people from getting sick.

Why do more than 15 million people in the United States have diabetes? Why do we still have more heart problems today than we did 30 years ago? Why is more than 50% of our population on some kind of prescription drug?

We spend more per person on medical care than any other nation in the world. Why is this happening in a country that seems to be able to solve nearly any technological problem? Why can't we solve our medical problems? How would life be different for us if we were to be a nation of healthy individuals?

This web site will help you explore why some of this is happening, what you can do to eat a healthy diet and the steps you can take to live a healthier life. It will also help clear up the bewildering information on nutritional supplements and what the benefits of taking supplement are. You will also learn other steps you can take to make your indoor environment healthier.

The secret to a healthy diet and a healthy life is living food – fresh vegetables, fruit, juices and green leafy salads. The answer to a healthier you is summed up in three words: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Living a healthy life and having a healthy family is all about eating a healthy diet, every day!

Chinese herbal teas are technically called Tisanes.
These are recognized as infusions made with herbs

and not tea from the Camelia Sinensis plant. The

essence of the herb is extracted when the tea is

steeped in hot water.

Traditionally, the Chinese herbal teas are used for their
medicinal and healing properties. However, there are many
varieties that are also enjoyed simply for their taste.
Today, these teas can be bought in China as the country produces
an entire pharmacy of herbs.

The Benefits of Chinese Herbal Tea

One of the well-known benefits of Chinese herbal tea is that
it offers the tea drinker caffeine free alternatives.
Many of them are considered to be very soothing and comforting.
The Rosebud and Chrysanthemum herbal teas are just
two of them.

The Rosebud and Chrysanthemum teas are known in China as a
woman’s herb. However, it is also useful for aiding
digestion. As noted, even a hardcore tea drinker will
surely enjoy the flowery freshness of these miniature
rosebuds. The Chrysanthemum in particular has a unique
flavor. It has long been used to cool the body and reduce
fever.

The Chinese herbal teas are even great beverages to have at
night, especially when you might not want caffeine.

The Famous Flower Herbal Teas

There is a number of Chinese herbal tea varieties, one of
those are the flower teas. These teas are caffeine
free alternatives and offer various benefits. Most of them
are calming and soothing, while offering a palatte of flavors.

Here are the most famous flower teas:

* Carnation Flower Tea – This is an attractive
red flower tea which is said to help restore the energy of the
body. It is also considered great for relaxing.

* Chrysanthemum Herbal Tea – This is
but a top grade of the famous cooling tea infusion. It has
a subtle sweetness and is highly refreshing.

* Gongju Herbal Tea – Another caffeine-free
tea, which is smooth tasting. The whole flower is
known for its soothing as well as relaxing attributes.

* Jasmine Bud Flower Tea – According to some
experts, this Chinese herbal tea consists solely of the small
and beautiful Jasmine flowers that have yet to open. This
produces a caffeine-free and sweet brew.

* Forget Me Not Flower Tea – This is also
caffeine-free and is said to aid the lungs. It brews a
mild and grassy flavored tisane. And, it is known for
its beautiful purple flowers.

* Yunnan Flower Bud Tea – As the name implies,
this Chinese herbal tea grows in the old forests of Yunnan.
This is considered a rare flower and is a local Yunnan drink
that is caffeine free.

* Wild New York Ginseng – Here is another
well-known Chinese herbal tea intended for those who appreciate
the wild growing conditions in which the roots lived. It
is said that because of the rugged wild conditions, each root
has a unique appearance and personality. Some of
these wild roots can be very small but also very old. There
are also some larger roots that can be younger. Accordingly,
these herbal roots lives for at least seven years and up.

* Kuding Pearl Tea – Many who have tasted this
tea noted that this is a bitter tea. This variety is rolled
into large pearls which are also called “one leaf tea”
because of the size of the leaves. Others call
it “one leaf” because one needs only one leaf of
this tea to heal a number of things. In addition,
this is an ancient leaf and is deemed by many as an interesting
herbal tea.

It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:

Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.

METHOD OF TREATMENT
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
3. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.
The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/ reduce main diseases:
1. High Blood Pressure - 30 days
2. Gastric - 10 days
3. Diabetes - 30 days
4. Constipation - 10 days
5. Cancer - 180 days
6. TB - 90 days
7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards - daily.

This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.

It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life.

Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.

This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ...not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.

Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks: Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting.

Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

Women's Medical Checklists for Every Age

As girls, we get medical check-ups every year. But as adults, we often don't see our doctors as regularly as we should. Life, work and caring for our own kids makes it difficult to find the time. And medical check-ups aren't so simple anymore, either. Women's needs involve a lot more than an ear check and knee tap.

Knowing which medical screenings you should have at every age will help you stay healthy. Here is a decade by decade overview of what you'll need…

What We All Should Get - Annual physicals

Beginning in our 20s, we should get certain exams regularly. Annual physicals, for starters, should include an evaluation of height and weight, blood pressure and a full-body check for skin cancer. These appointments are also excellent opportunities to ask your doctor about any physical ailments or conditions you may be experiencing.

Pap tests and pelvic exams

According to Dr. Christine Miller, associate clinical professor of reproductive medicine at the University California San Diego, women who have been sexually active for at least three years or who are 21 or older should have a Pap test, which screens for cervical cancer, and a pelvic exam annually. Some doctors schedule Pap tests every two to three years as long as previous tests have come back clear and there are no additional risk factors, such as multiple sexual partners or herpes infection.

Breast exams

Breast exams at an annual physical and/or annual visit to your OB/GYN are a must for every woman, young and old. Women should also examine their breasts at least once a month: look in the mirror for any change in size, shape and color; squeeze the nipples to check for any discharge; and, lying down, feel their breasts from top to bottom and side to side.

Flu shots

Some physicians recommend annual influenza shots for everyone, while other doctors don't feel they're necessary until you're 65 and older, or if you have additional risk factors. "If you have pulmonary disease or your immune system is compromised, if you are a health care provider or live with someone who is at high risk, you should have a flu vaccine annually," Miller says.

Tetanus vaccination

Boost your tetanus vaccination every 10 years. Ask your regular physician for one; most health care providers administer them.

Dental Checkups

Aim for dental checkups and cleanings every 6-12 months, particularly if you're pregnant, have diabetes, smoke, have dry mouth, or are HIV-positive. Good oral hygiene can help prevent certain medical conditions, such as gum disease, from developing. Research has recently linked gum disease and heart problems.

In Our 20s - Sexually transmitted diseases

If you are sexually active, you should be tested regularly for chlamydia, HIV, gonorrhea, and syphilis, Miller says. She also advises women, particularly those age 9 to 26, to ask for the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine, a new vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer. Older women may also ask about the vaccine, particularly those who have multiple sexual partners.

Cholesterol

Dr. Mitchell Charap, associate professor of clinical medicine at New York University School of Medicine, advises women in their 20s to begin having cholesterol levels checked every 3-5 years. Your regular doctor can administer this test.

Hepatitis B vaccine

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that anyone under 18 be vaccinated. So should anyone at risk of infection, such as people who have sex with multiple partners or with someone who is already infected, have contact with blood products, or travel to countries where hepatitis B is common.

Lifestyle

Charap feels that lifestyle issues may be one of the most important areas to examine during regular check-ups. "Most people [who die] between the ages of 20 and 40 die of accidental causes," he says. "So when I see a young woman for a check-up, I want to make sure she's wearing a seatbelt and/or a helmet. I want to know how her nutrition is and whether or not she's depressed. I ask if she's smoking, whether she's exposing young children to smoke, if she's drinking, taking drugs or engaging in unsafe sexual practices." In

Our 30s

Medical screenings you'll need in your 30s won't change much from those of your 20s. However, there are some issues to consider. Birth control Your birth control needs may change during this decade, as many women these days have their first children in their 30s. This same decade is when many other women are finished with child bearing. As your needs change, you should consult with your OB/GYN about the best birth control method for you.
Health Care Discount Plans

People often look for ways to cut their health care expenses. Insurance is one way. Health care discount plans may be another way, if you do your homework in checking out the companies and the plans.

Participants typically pay an annual or monthly fee and are led to believe that they will receive large discounts on medical services and prescriptions from thousands of participating doctors or other providers. Do not buy over the telephone or Internet without reading the actual contract. Do not even give credit card or checking account information until you have checked everything out, even if the company says you can get a refund if you are not satisfied.

How do you determine if the companies deliver what they tell you? First, read the agreement to see what is actually offered. Asking the company how the plan works is not a substitute for reading the agreement. If a company will not allow you to receive a copy of the agreement to review first, you can shop for another company. Look for the sections that state exactly how much the discounts will be. If the plan says that you can save up to 80%, look for the minimum amount you will save, also. By the way, you may be able to arrange a discount on your own by paying cash. Check with your providers about that possibility.

Ask to see a list of participating providers in your area. Check with several of them to be sure that they do participate. Ask those local providers how big a discount they give members. Very importantly, check with your existing doctors, pharmacies, and other health care providers to determine if they participate in the plan and what discount they offer. You can also ask your providers what discount plans they participate in and then contact those companies for information.

Discount plans are not the same as insurance and are usually not regulated by the state you live in. If you are not sure if the plan is insurance, call your state's Department of Insurance to check. You can also visit the Better Business Bureau online to locate your state's BBB office here: http://welcome.bbb.org/

If the company checks out, compare what it offers to other discount plans that check out. These plans are not all the same. Then compare them to insurance plans. You may need one or both types of coverage to receive the protection you want at prices you can afford.

Healthy Living Starts With Healthy Eating

Healthy Living Starts with Healthy Eating

by

Lloyd Groves

Recently we shared an article on "WATER" and how critical it was to your good health. Whether you take vitamins, minerals, multi-vitamins, specialty natural foods, one prescription, or multiple prescriptions this article will give you insights into potentially improving your lifestyle and making it more healthy.

Forming the right habits are important to living a healthy lifstyle and gaining the best results from
Healthy eating.

Here are twelve habits that you can develop that will help you to healthy eating. Give yourself a quick review and see how you are doing today. Then start slowly, pick picking one habit and begin to make it a habit of your own.

Focus on one habit at a time, and before you know it, you will have developed habits that will lead to a healthier eating lifestyle.

1. The most important Habit: Drink Plenty of Water

You must keep your body hydrated. When you keep your body hydrated it responds and will perform at its best. Your body will process all the nutrients in the foods you eat properly becasue it is hydrated.

Nutritionists and medical professionals generally recommend that you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. They use an 8 ounces quanity as the guideline. If you are in hot weather you may need more water to keep your body hydrated, listen to your body. If you are trying to lose weight use plenty of ice in your glass of water. This will help your body to burn energy to warm up the water to body temperature.

Research has shown that you can speed up your metabolism by 1/3 by drinking several glasses of ice water each day.

2. The second impoartant habit is to Eat Breakfast

You have probably heard this before, but breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Think of it like you are stoking a fire, and it has burned down overnight. After not eating overnight or whatever your sleep pattern is your body needs fuel to get you going. By eatin breakfast you will have more energy and you will be more alert.

This is very important for women, a recent study has shown that women who eat breakfast will consume an average of 100 calories less during the day than those who skipped breakfast. Eating breakfast is a must if you are trying to lose weight,

Children should eat breakfast because they will be able to concentrate better and be more alert in school.

3. Third important habit is a morning snack

This is a biggy. Many of us love a snack. The caution here is "snack smart" and don't let food become a comfort for you. What kinds of snacks? Good question and one that depends on your level of activity during the day. The obvious is to stay away from high sugar snacks, starches, or things that turn to sugar quickly in the body because this can cause weight gain.

A possible alternative "if" you need a snack is a serving of individual cheese and crackers, peanut butter crackers, chese crackers or cheese crackers, and limit your snack to one package.

4. The fourth habit is Don’t Skip Lunch

We are all tempted to skip lunch now and then, especially if we are trying to lose weight. We think it will save some calories. We rationalize that we don't have time and end up working through lunch, or we run errands, or schedule meetings during your lunch.

Let’s examine what happens when we skip lunch. First, blood sugar levels drop. Then our metabolism slows down to compensate for the missing fuel. When you get home you are hungry and you may eat everything in sight.

It is recommended that you eat lunch each day, even if only a light lunch. Plan your lunch if you don’t have time to go out then you can pack a lunch. An example of an easy "brown bag" lunch might be a turkey/chicken sandwich, an individual packet of carrots/celery/grapes that you can pack quickly in the morning and eat at your desk.

5. The fifth important habit is an afternoon snack

This is another biggy. Again, the caution here is to "snack smart" and don't let food become a comfort for
you.

The same possible alternative that was suggested for your morning snack "if" you need a snack is a serving of an individual cheese and crackers, peanut butter crakers, chese crackers or cheese crakers, and limit your snack to one package.

6. Avoid Late Dinners

This is a big challenge with our busy lifestyle today. So, your busy schedule will always tempt you to put off dinner until the last minute. Plan your your dinner and try to eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed.

It is important that you give your body

Essentials for a Healthy Body

"Water"

The goal of Prescriptioncard.org is to promote health through information about food, vitamins, hygiene, and dental, along with various updates on medications either pharmaceutical or natural.

This article is focused on what we believe to be the most important element our body needs. That element is water.

Many people do not realize how plain water, not soda, not coffee, not energy drinks, not smoothies, or virtually any other prepared drink with the possible exception of green tea is vital to maintaining a healthy body.

Without water life could not exist and would never have existed. Water could be called the secret ingredient to long life and good health. Two key factors that are related to health are water and calcium. You ask, “Why?” Most living things are made up of water (about 70%) and Calcium (about 20%).

That means you and I are about 70% water and 20% Calcium. The kind of water that

you drink and bath in is very important. The proponents of drinking, bathing is seldom mentioned, de-mineralized water (distilled or reverse osmosis) have failed to look at growing indications that minerals in water may be more bio-available than minerals in food.

De-mineralized water (distilled and reverse osmosis processes) has 85% to 99% of everything removed, including minerals. This type of water is then termed "aggressive," meaning it will seek out minerals to electrically balance itself.

People drinking this type of water should know that the water would deplete minerals from their body. Vegetables and other foods cooked in this type of water will have the nutrients pulled from their food into the cooking water, which is usually drained off.

It is crucial for people drinking de-mineralized water to supplement their mineral intake. Minerals are the spark plugs, the electrolytes of the body that allow the natural electrical circuitry from the nerve center of the brain to each and every part of the body.

Healthy Water, Longer Life, By Martin Fox reports clearly shows "…the relationship of drinking water to heart disease and cancer and the importance of a variety of minerals for good health.

The documented studies on both animals and humans reveal the importance of drinking water with a high degree of total dissolved solids and hardness (calcium and magnesium).

Hard water, high in calcium and magnesium, provides protection from a variety of potentially harmful agents such as cadmium, lead, chlorine, and dietary fat.

The conclusion from these animal studies is very clear: "hard water is healthier for you than soft water."

Dr. Masironi, from the World Health Organization (WHO), states: "Usually modern diets are marginally deficient in many elements, and therefore, the contribution of hard water or a daily intake of lithium or magnesium, or particular other elements may make a difference between optimal and sub-optimal intake.

Also, chemical forms of many of these elements in water are different from what is in food. In food, there may be some chelating agents that prevent immediate absorption of certain elements and even if they are contained in very high amounts in food, their absorption comes down to perhaps a few percent.

This is a brief glimpse of water we urge you to check out your drinking water and drink healthy water along with the right amount each day. Check with a nutritionist, your health food store, or your medical professional for their recommendations on the amount of water each day plus other beverages.

Good health to you from Prescriptioncard.org.

U.S. marshals seize supplements promoted as cures

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. marshals seized $71,000 worth of goods from a Florida company that illegally marketed supplements to treat serious conditions such as diabetes, anemia and high blood pressure, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Friday.

It said FulLife Natural Options, Inc., of Boca Raton, Florida, was marketing Charantea Ampalaya Capsules and Charantea Ampalaya Tea as an unapproved drug.

"These claims are evident in the products' labeling, including promotional literature and FulLife's Internet Web site," the FDA said in a statement.

"Despite FDA's warnings, the firm failed to bring its marketing into compliance with the law. During subsequent inspections, FDA inspectors found that the offending claims were still being made."

It said marshals also raided Charron Nutrition of Tallahassee, Florida, last August, which was promoting its Glucobetic, Neuro-betic, Ocu-Comp, Atri-Oxi, Super-Flex, MSM-1000, and Atri-E-400 capsules as treatments for diabetes, arthritis and other serious health conditions.

You're significantly more likely to develop dementia or Alzheimer’s disease than people who never smoked or have quit, findings from a Dutch study suggest. "Over seven years of follow up, those who currently smoked were 50 percent more likely to develop dementia than never smokers (while) past-smokers had a slightly increased risk to develop dementia," Dr. Monique Breteler told Reuters Health.

Breteler and colleagues, at Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, followed 6,868 men and women, 55 years and older (average, 69.5 years) and initially without dementia, to assess associations between smoking and the development of dementia.

Overall, 22.6 percent of the study participants were current smokers at the start of the study and 41.6 percent were past smokers, the researchers report in the medical journal Neurology.

The researchers report that 10.3 percent of the participants developed dementia and over three-quarters of these were diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

After adjusting for age and gender, the investigators found that current smokers had a 47 percent higher risk of dementia and a 56 percent higher risk of Alzheimer's disease than those who never smoked. The corresponding increases in risk for former smokers were 15 percent and 17 percent.

Breteler and colleagues further investigated the association between smoking and the development of dementia among participants who either did or did not carry the e4 form of the apolipoprotein gene that is associated with an increased risk for Alzheimer's disease.

They found that the effect of smoking is more pronounced in people without the e4 variant, possibly because e4 carriers "may have an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease in such a way that other risk factors do not increase the risk further."

SOURCE: Neurology, September 2007. Copyright 2007 Reuters Limited

By JIM FITZGERALD, Associated Press Writer Sun Sep 23, 1:48 PM ET

MAHOPAC, N.Y - It was just another morning at the senior center: Women were sewing, men were playing pool — and seven demonstrators, average age 76, were picketing outside, demanding doughnuts.

They wore sandwich boards proclaiming, "Give Us Our Just Desserts" and "They're Carbs, Not Contraband."

At issue is a decision to refuse free doughnuts, pies and breads that were being donated to senior centers around Putnam County, north of New York City. Officials were concerned that the county was setting a bad nutritional precedent by providing mounds of doughnuts and other sweets to seniors.

The picketers said they were objecting not to a lack of sweets but that they weren't consulted about the ban.

"Lack of respect is what it's all about," said Joe Hajkowski, 75, a former labor union official who organized the demonstration. He said officials had implied that seniors were gorging themselves on jelly doughnuts and were too senile to make the choice for themselves.

C. Michael Sibilia said, "I'm 86, not 8."

Inside, some seniors said they missed the doughnuts but others said they were glad to see them go.

"It was disgusting the way people went after them," said 80-year-old Rita Jorgensen. "I think the senior center did them a favor by taking it away."

Stan Tuttle, coordinator of nutritional services for the county's Office for the Aging, said the program had gotten out of control. As many as 16 cases of breads, cakes and pastries were delivered, by various means, to the William Koehler Memorial Senior Center each day. Some were moldy and some had been stored overnight in the trunks of volunteers' cars, he said.

Caregivers there and elsewhere say the doughnut debate illustrates the difficulty of balancing nutrition and choice when providing meals to the elderly.

"Senior citizens can walk down to the store and buy doughnuts. Nobody's stopping them," said Michael Jacobson, executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington.

But he notes that older people have high rates of heart disease and high blood pressure and says senior citizen centers, nursing homes and assisted-living centers should not be worsening the health problems of seniors.

At the North East Bronx Senior Citizen Center, lunch is served five times a week (suggested contribution $1.50).

"We don't tell them what to do, we don't force them to eat what's good for them. But we certainly don't give them anything that's bad for them," said center director Silvia Ponce.

The church-basement senior center, one of 325 under the New York City Department for the Aging, has a mostly Italian-American clientele, a Naples-born cook and a menu that includes eggplant parmigiana, linguini with clams and manicotti.

"We try to give them what they like," said the cook, Stella Bruno.

The lunches have to supply one-third of the federal minimum daily requirements in such categories as calories, protein, vitamin C and vitamin A, said Chris Miller, spokesman for the department.

The Bronx center offers coffee, tea, bagels and rolls in the morning, but nothing in the doughnut family.

"The sweetest thing here is the raisin in the raisin bagel," said Nicholas Volpicella, 87.

Maureen Janowski, director of nutrition resources for Morrison Senior Dining in Atlanta, which provides meals at more than 370 senior living communities, says residents' food preferences depend somewhat on their age. Those born between 1901 and 1925 generally prefer meat and potatoes, and those born between 1925 and 1942 are "a little more trendy, a little more adventurous, a lot more nutrition-savvy," she said.

"They have choices, and we show them how to make good choices," she said.

At the Bronx center, Bruno said she tries to help the seniors avoid the bad buffet choices when they take a trip to Atlantic City. As a group was departing, she handed them bag lunches — with a roast beef sandwich, cranberry juice and carrot sticks.

"Protein, vitamin C, vitamin A," she said.

Wearing protest signs, from left, Geoff Lock, Margaret Colesanti and Ann Donegan stage a pro-doughnut demonstration at the Koehler Senior Center in Mahopac, N.Y., Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007. At issue is a decision to refuse free doughnuts, pies and breads that were being donated to senior centers around Putnam County. Officials were concerned that the county was setting a bad nutritional precedent by providing mounds of doughnuts and other sweets to seniors.
FDA's Pilot Program to Better Educate Consumers about Recalled Food Products

What is the purpose of this pilot program?

FDA is conducting a six-month pilot program to educate and assist consumers in identifying recalled food products that may pose a significant health risk. FDA wants to help consumers identify these products by posting a photo of the principal label panel. We believe that by posting a photo of the label, consumers will be able to more easily identify and avoid these potentially hazardous food products. This pilot is one among a number of measures taken by FDA to proactively educate the public and improve food safety.

What are typical food risks that FDA alerts the public to?

Typical significant food risks include, among others, foods contaminated with dangerous microorganisms such as Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, and Listeria monocytogenes and allergens in foods such as nuts, dairy, soy, and fish ingredients.

Which recalled products are part of the pilot program?

The pilot covers recalled food products that pose a significant health risk. This generally will involve potential Class I food recalls and may also involve some potential Class II food recalls.

A Class I recall is one in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a product that violates FDA regulations will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

A Class II recall is one in which the use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

The pilot will not cover Class III food product recalls, which are products unlikely to cause any adverse health reaction but that violate FDA regulations.

Over 100 Class I recall events involving food products took place in the United States from Oct. 1, 2005, though Sept. 30, 2006 (fiscal year 2006). During the past five fiscal years, there has been an average of 188 Class I food recall events each year.

Where can I find the Web site where information and photos about recalled foods are posted?

Go to "Recalls, Market Withdrawals and Safety Alerts,” which lists press releases of recalled products. Click on the press release about the specific product recall in which you are interested. A link to a photo, if posted, appears at the end of the press release. Although this Web site lists recalls of all FDA-regulated products, at this time photos appear only for recalled food products that could potentially cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

Why is FDA piloting the use of photos with recalled human food products only?

FDA agrees with consumers and consumer groups that posting a photo will help consumers identify recalled food products so that they can avoid using them. During the course of the pilot and after it concludes, FDA will evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot. FDA will explore and consider expanding this program to other FDA-regulated products if this pilot is shown to be beneficial to consumers.

Consumer as well as industry feedback will weigh heavily into FDA's decision process. You can comment on this pilot by e-mailing FDA at pilotphotofoods@fda.hhs.gov.

How long will this pilot program last?

The six-month pilot began in mid-February 2007 and formally ended Aug. 12, 2007. The pilot is continuing for a short time after the end date while it is being evaluated.

What is the purpose of the pictures and what do they show?

The purpose is to increase food safety by making it easier for consumers to identify a recalled product that poses a significant health risk. The pictures will show a sample of the principal display panel, which consumers generally see when the product is on a retailer's shelf. It is important for consumers to read the text of the press release that will be posted along with the photo for specific identifying information such as lot numbers and manufacturer's name.

Generally, if multiple products or multiple varieties of a food product are recalled, such as various flavors of an ice cream product, only one photo of one of the recalled products would be shown. However, there may be exceptions if FDA finds that posting multiple photos may more clearly identify the affected recalled products.

Why do some recalls include photos and others do not?

During the pilot period, photos will be posted only for potential class I and, in some instances, potential class II recalled food products where press releases have issued.
